The Asian session: quiet, but not simple
The Asian session (Tokyo / Hong Kong / Singapore, ~UTC 00:00–09:00) is the quietest of the three — but quiet doesn't mean empty; the opportunities just have a different shape.
Three traits
- Mild volatility: the big money sits in Europe and America, so Asian books are thinner — fewer trends, more ranges. This is home turf for range and grid strategies;
- Digesting the overnight: gaps and emotions left by the US close get absorbed through the Asian morning; the first hour often retraces;
- Scout signals: the highs and lows of the Asian range often become the reference Europe breaks — Asia draws the box, Europe trades the breakout.
Who it suits
For traders in Asian time zones this is the daytime battlefield: trade yen and aussie pairs (most active now), or use the calm for pre-market homework — draw the levels, arm the alerts, and let the European and US sessions trigger them.
Further: how Europe takes the baton and breaks Asia's box — see the European session; to pin the Asian box on your chart, a rectangle plus alerts is enough — timezone setup in terminal timezone settings.
